Ricardo Fuller’s stunning strike against Peterborough was struck with such venom that he aggravated his troublesome hamstring and had to be taken off.
Though Chris Powell says the Jamaican has not been totally ruled out of the game, it seems hard to believe that he will recover in time to play a part.
Another hamstring victim, Danny Haynes, is likely to be fit and his pace would be a potent threat. Rob Hulse was unlucky to be dropped for the Peterborough match and was unfortunate not to give the perfect riposte when he came on as a substitute for Fuller. He just failed to get enough contact on a cross from Danny Green and Yann Kermorgant had to apply the finishing touch.
Haynes and Hulse look set to contest the spot alongside Yann Kermorgant. The Frenchman returned to the starting line-up against Peterborough and is relishing the short trip to Millwall. He had this to say to the club’s website:
“I know it’s a big game. Millwall are doing well as well. I know the fans don’t like each other so it will be a big game, a big derby and we are going to do our best to come back with three points.
“I remember against Crystal Palace when we lost at home it was a difficult time for us. Maybe we will try to give something special for our fans.
“I’m sure a big crowd will come to support us and we will do our best to come away with three points.”
Another decision for Powell to make is who will partner Leon Cort at the heart of the defence. Michael Morrison picked up his fifth caution of the campaign on Tuesday and will be suspended. Dorian Dervite appears to have overtaken Matt Taylor in the pecking order and looks the likely choice.
Bradley Pritchard, Johnnie Jackson and Dale Stephens are all on four yellow cards for the season and need to avoid being booked in December to escape a ban.
